Protocols for High-Risk Pregnancies - July 2010 Edition

 compromised by disease, trauma, substance abuse, and other factors are not uncommon. They clearly demand special attention obstetrician, obstetric nurse, primary care physician and others. Through three successful editions, Queenan has provided these audiences with a concise yet complete to managing pregnant patients and fetuses at risk.For the fourth edition, Dr Queenan has proposed replacing up to a third of the 96 contributors to get some “new blood” into the book. He has invited more contributions from European authors in order to better cater to an international readership. The book will, however, retain the popular “protocols” theme, in which very brief chapters on the spectrum of HRP topics provide quick summaries of a problem and diagnostic and therapeutic steps to manage it. Every chapter will be revised carefully to reflect the latest thinking on the best approach to pregnant patients with risks like tuberculosis, STDs, bleeding, pre-eclampsia, etc. The many quick reference tables and charts will be updates as, of course, will the brief bibliographies accompanying each chapter.This new edition will provide increased coverage of IUGR, Pre-eclampsia, teratology and genetics. New chapters will be introduced on doppler , nuchal translucency and also on AIDS in Furthermore the fourth edition will be evidence-based. The new editor, Katherine Spong, is a guru of evidence-based medicine and as well as her role as one of the editors of the American journal: Obstetrics and Gynaecology, controls the foetal medicine programme at the National Institute of Health in Washington.
Experience and evidence fused for best-practice management of high-risk pregnancies
High-risk pregnancies present life-threatening challenges to two of your patients: the mother and her fetus. The direct, exemplary guidance in Protocols for High-Risk Pregnancy enables you to:
* better understand your patients’ conditions
* devise optimum management
* maximize the outcome and minimize the complications for both the mother and her fetus
To enhance clinical relevance, each protocol is written as if the patient were present. Evidence to support an intervention is given where it exists. The authors’ experience provides additional wise counsel. Key references provide the springboard for a deeper understanding of a topic. All protocols have been updated. New protocols follow the successful formula of previous editions.

Pocket Atlas of Radiographic Anatomy

Despite the introduction of digital radiography, the  obtaining and evaluating radiographic images has not changed significantly in recent years, nor has the importance of good knowlegde of the anatomic details of conventional radiographs. This book is a case in point. We were very pleased with the wide distribution of the first edition, which has been an additional incentive to improve a number of details, include even better images, replace some of the drawings, and include a few new radiographs. The structure of the second edition also srickly follows that of Normal Findings in Radiology and Pocket Atlas of Radiographic  Our intention in this is to present clearly and concisely each repective of conventional diagnostic radiography and to avoid unnecessary repetition. At the same time, we give the reader the opportunity to examine different aspects of the same material with the same degree of clarity, which may prove important on another occasion. We have employed a consistent style and the same radiographys to structure the material and make it more readily accessible for reading, learning, or reference purposes.

Short Answer Questions and MCQs in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, 2nd edition

Following on from the success of the , “Short Answer Questions and MCQs in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care” has been completely rewritten to reflect the changes to the final FRCA exam from a long essay based  to compulsory short answer questions (SAQs). This guide aims to introduce methods and systems of answering questions succinctly and accurately. Almost all of the questions have been asked in the final FRCA since 1996 and most chapters carry more detail than required to reach a pass standard. The new edition takes a question-orientated approach and provides guidance for the final exam. Given the short time allowed for answering the SAQs, previous practice, prior to sitting the examination, is essential. Each of the twelve sections has a comprehensive set of multiple choice questions (MCQ) to the same standard as those set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. It is vital that candidates practice MCQs as well as SAQs, and the ninety multiple choice questions that follow the SAQ paper carry just as much weight as the SAQ paper. The book has been structured as topic based sections and chapters, each of which can be followed and used to enable self-testing. This book is an invaluable revision aid during preparation for the final FRCA exam and, due to the breadth of content, also forms a useful ready reference throughout anaesthetic training.
